What is the Ford EcoBoost engine?

In today’s world it is more important than ever to make the most of what you have and to not be wasteful. At the same time, you do not want to sacrifice certain things. In terms of technology and engineering, you want to be able to make the most of something that is modest or even small in size without losing the power and capability that you’re used to. If you have been looking around at certain new Ford models, you may have seen the term EcoBoost mentioned from time to time. What is the Ford EcoBoost engine?

In order to retain the power—or even increase the power—its drivers are used to, Ford challenged itself to come up with a new engine design. The automaker has created an engine capable of packing a punch while remaining more efficient and lightweight. Big things come in small packages, as the saying goes, and that is the way of thinking that goes into the creation of an EcoBoost engine. Environmental consciousness comes into play, making sure EcoBoost engines are efficient and produce as little waste in emissions as possible.

While you might want an engine that is efficient and does not waste fuel, you do not want it to come at the expense of power. EcoBoost engines are still capable of packing a wallop, like the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 in the 2017 F-150, which produces 375 horsepower and 470 pounds per foot of torque.

Efficiency is another key when it comes to the EcoBoost engines. That 3.5-liter engine in the F-150 gets up to 25 highway miles per gallon, which is a remarkable number for a pickup truck. Another efficient example: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine found in the 2017 Fusion gets 21 city and 31 highway miles per gallon.

EcoBoost engines are not a “one size fits all” endeavor. Ford understands that customers want to have choices, so it has developed a wide variety of EcoBoost engines that can fit into different cars and provide each vehicle with what it needs to operate. It is vital to be flexible, and EcoBoost engines are certainly that.
